Our Story

Our story actually started long before either of us had any idea we’d end up here.

We first met in primary school — Sophia in Grade 6 and Tarek in Grade 5 — through javelin of all things. At the time, there were definitely no thoughts of marriage, wedding venues or spending forever together. We were just two kids throwing pointy sticks across a field and getting on with life.

Years passed, life happened, and eventually we found our way back to each other after school.

Our first date was very us. Before anything romantic could happen, Tarek first had to meet one of the most important girls in Sophia’s life: Athena, her horse. After apparently passing that test, we went back to his house, where Sophia was given a slight warning about meeting his mom. That warning turned out to be completely unnecessary because, naturally, Sophia and his mom got along immediately.

And somewhere between all the ordinary days, ridiculous laughs, horses, work, adventures, difficult moments and everything else life threw at us, we became each other’s person.

There wasn’t one huge movie moment where everything suddenly made sense. It was in the smaller things — showing up for each other, making each other laugh when we probably shouldn’t, being there when life was hard, and somehow making even the most chaotic days feel a little easier simply because we were doing them together.

Then came one very special late-night walk on the beach.

At around 10pm, we walked along the ocean, sat together by the water and watched the reflections around us. There were Egyptian geese, a random cat making an appearance, and absolutely no indication to Sophia that anything particularly life-changing was about to happen.

And then Tarek proposed.

Sophia said yes — obviously.

So here we are, all these years after two kids met at javelin practice, getting ready to stand together at Rockhaven Farm on 3 April 2027 and promise to keep choosing each other for the rest of their lives.

Our relationship has never been about being perfect or taking ourselves too seriously. It’s full of laughter, teasing, adventures, a fair amount of chaos and a whole lot of love.

And we honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

From javelins to “I do”… who would have thought?
